WA: DashPoint Park

From: Robyn Schultz (rschultz51@attbi.com) | Date: 2002-07-14 22:19:45 UTC-07:00
Just joined the list and wanted to introduce myself.  My name is Robyn and I live in the Seattle area.

Today I found my 4th letterbox at DashPoint Park.  I started out late in the day so only had time to find box #1, but it was exactly where it was supposed to be.  I hope to make it back to get box #2 later this week.  My husband, myself and our 2 dogs had a great time "boxing".

I read Amanda's post with great interest since my in-laws live in White Salmon WA which is about 20 minutes away from Mary Hill.  Next time we visit I will be heading out to find that Peacock.  The funny thing is the last time we went to see the family we went to the Mary Hill Winery and then over to the Museum.  If only I'd known....

There's always a next time.
Robyn

Subject: [LbNA] WA: Mary Hill & Horsethief Lake Letterboxes

Didn't end up going to the beach yesterday after all, so we headed to
the hot windy inferno of South Central Washington to check on a couple
of my favorite letterboxes.

Mary Hill Peacock:
I can't tell you how happy I am to report that this box is alive and
well and is still right where it should be.  The clues say 100 - 110
degrees.  It is closer to 100.  The 12 - 14 paces are steps, but
otherwise, no problem. It is a rarely-visited box.  Ryan and Amanda in
Seattle stamped in back in March, I think it was and just last month it
was visited by some new letterboxers Quail Lady, Jeepster, et al from
Kennewick.  Welcome to the world of letterboxing and I'm so glad you
found this stamp!  I wish more people would check out this letterbox.  I
think it's pretty cool.  There are usually numerous peacocks roaming the
picnic area, as was certainly the case yesterday.  I finally got to go
into the museum, too and it was very impressive.

Horsethief Lake Letterbox:
Thrilled to report that this letterbox is intact and right where it
should be, as well.  It has only had ONE visitor, which was Funhog, way
back when.  I'm sure glad she went and stamped in.  The stamp in this
one is good, too (in my opinion) and certainly worth adding to your
logbooks, folks!  One thing to note.  As of June 24th because of the
budget, the State of Washington is now charging a $5 parking fee for day
use in the parks.  UGH!  I've got to get one of those annual passes soon
since I visit Washington parks quite a bit.

Both Mary Hill and Horsethief Lake State Park are open late spring to
early fall only, for the most part.  At Mary Hill you can park at the
gate and walk down and get the letterbox when the grounds are closed.
This is not so for Horsethief Lake, however.  When it is closed you
cannot get in.  Period.  There are petroglyphs there that must be
protected and so that park is highly secure.

Anyhow... these letterboxes are worth getting.  I'm not trying to be
conceited.  I just happen to love the stamps I carved for them since
they so depict the places they are at.

Best regards,

Amanda Briles

Robyn,
I did the exact same thing. We're relatively new to
letterboxing as well. About a month and a half ago, we went up to
Deception Pass State Park for a few days. We practically were
sitting upon 2 of the boxes there (Bowman Bay and South Beach) and
didn't know it until I came home, logged on to the site and learned
that they were up there. Drats... We'll just have to head back.
What a fun experience though! We're about to drop our own couple of
boxes soon. I just have to figure out how to create some stamps in
a quick manner (with 2 little ones running around). Hope to have
our couple of boxes out soon!

See you on the trail!
